Blue Line

Avondale is an at-grade train station on the Blue Line of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system . It serves Avondale Estates, Georgia (although it is not in Avondale Estates city limits), Clarkston, and the communities of Druid Hills, Scottsdale, Tucker, Northlake and North Decatur. The station is located at the southern end of the Decatur Heights neighborhood in Decatur, Georgia. It has 2 island platforms; one for each direction. The center 2 tracks are not normally used for through service. Because of these middle tracks, it is not uncommon for trains to be bound for Avondale, having passengers change trains at Avondale. This station opened on June 30, 1979; From 1979 to 1993, this was the terminus of the East Line. This station has free parking (823 spaces) available on E. College Avenue.

It provides access to the Dekalb County Department of Family, and Children Services Center (DFACS). It also Provides Connecting Bus Service to Emory, Dekalb Medical Center, Northlake Mall, Georgia Perimeter College-Clarkston, Dekalb Technical College, Georgia Department of Labor, Open Campus High School, Dekalb Farmers Market, North Dekalb Mall, Emory-Northlake Regional Hospital, Avondale Estates, Tucker, and The Mountain Industrial Business District.

East of the station is Avondale Yard, a train yard used to service, clean, store, and test the fleet of rolling stock it services. Adjacent to the yard is Laredo Bus Facility.

Clifton Corridor

Avondale station is a proposed terminus for rapid transit along the Clifton Corridor, a proposed public transportation corridor stretching from Lindbergh Center eastwards, following the existing CSX rail corridor to Emory University, with possible continuation along the northern edge of Decatur via Suburban Plaza on N. Decatur Rd. and on to Avondale. As of October 2011, bus, light rail and heavy rail rapid-transit options are under consideration.[2] The 1-cent sales tax upon which the Atlanta region will vote in Summer 2012 would provide funding for the line.
